Affectionately known as ‘The Valley’, Moonee Valley Racecourse is one of Melbourne’s premier race tracks and home to the Group One W.S Cox Plate. The Valley also hosts a successful night racing calendar kicking off during the Spring Racing Carnival.

Renowned for being Melbourne’s most appealing spectator racecourse, The Valley offers an atmosphere like no other with an up close and personal experience of racing and entertainment.

Located just 6km from the city, The Valley is easily accessible via car or public transport.

What is the dress code?

Whilst acknowledging the importance of tradition, the Moonee Valley Racing Club is a progressive and innovative race club. Following feedback from our members, we have adjusted our dress code to ensure it represents modern fashion whilst maintaining the distinction of our members’ areas.

MENS - RELAXED

Relaxed (Applies to Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes Night)

Gentlemen (including children 13 & over) are required to wear a collared shirt (polo shirts not permitted) with tailored trousers or chinos. No tie is required, and suit coat, sports coat or blazer is optional. Dress shoes or leather boat shoes must be worn.

Not Permitted: Any variation of runner including joggers, sandals, thongs or any dilapidated footwear. Denim and denim-look clothing, jeans, jodhpurs, shorts, shirts without a collar, polo shirts, parkas, windbreakers, tracksuits, jackets including bomber jackets, duffel coats, un-tailored leather jackets, peaked caps, beanies, pullovers or cardigans without a jacket, sporting guernseys.

Traditional (Applies to Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day)

Gentlemen (including children 13 & over) are required to wear a collar and tie, tailored trousers and either a suit coat, sports coat or blazer.

Not Permitted: Any variation of runner including boat shoes, joggers, sandals, thongs or any dilapidated footwear. Denim and denim-look clothing, jeans, jodhpurs, shorts, shirts without a collar, polo shirts, parkas, windbreakers, tracksuits, jackets including bomber jackets, duffle coats, untailored leather jackets, peaked caps, beanies, pullovers or cardigans without a jacket, sporting guernseys.

WOMEN (Applies to all meetings)

MVRC is a progressive club and has adapted it’s dress code to suit current fashion trends. Ladies are expected to maintain a suitable standard of dress in keeping with the distinction of the Members’ Reserve.

Not Permitted: Any variation of runner including joggers, rubber thongs or any dilapidated footwear. Denim and denim look clothing, jeans, jodhpurs, polo shirts, parkas, windbreakers, tracksuits, jackets including bomber jackets, duffle coats, untailored leather jackets, peaked caps, beanies, sporting guernseys, any clothing revealing excessive bare midriff.

Can I bring my own food or picnic?

Moonee Valley does not allow patrons to bring their own food, hampers, eskies or drinks. 

Can I bring my own deck chair or umbrella for shade?

Moonee Valley does not allow patrons to bring in any shade structures that may obstruct the view of other patrons. These include umbrellas, large market umbrellas, beach shades, canopies or folding chairs of any type. 

Do I need to pre-purchase a General Admission ticket?

The Cox Plate Carnival is a fully-ticketed event. Patrons are advised to pre-purchase here.  

Is there public seating available?

Grandstand seating is available, however is sold out on Ladbrokes Cox Plate Day.

Is there a cloakroom?

The cloakroom is located on the first floor at the north end of JR’s Wine Bar. The cloakroom closes 30 minutes after the last race at all race meetings.
