The racing headed to Ladbrokes Park Hillside this weekend for the Group 2 running of the Quayclean Zipping Classic. Punters and racing fans alike were treated to a quality 10 card day with some seriously competitive racing. It was a real reminder that although we are drawing closer to the end of the Spring Racing Carnival it surely hasn’t lost any of its quality!
The group racing kicked off with the 3200m Ladbrokes Sandown Cup and the red hot favourite Qewy, trained by Charlie Appleby led all the way, giving punters a good start to day. Although it wasn’t without some concern with the fast finishing Swacadelic coming up a half a neck short!
In what proved to be probably the most impressive win of the day, Morton’s Fork produced an amazing run home, when it looked buried in a sea of horses, to find the line in the nick of time giving the Godolphin colt the Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas.
In what possibly was one of the most baffling photo finishes seen this Spring Racing Carnival, Beautiful Romance got the tight win, just beating Almoonqith and Big Orange in a 3 way finish. It was a fortunate victory as it looked as if Almoonqith pulled up just before the line and Big Orange fought a strong wind down the back straight out in front. None the less it was a victory which capped off a remarkable day for the Godolphin stable who had three wins from three separate trainers.
If last Saturday was anything to go by we should be in for another ripping day of racing at this Saturday's upcoming Sportsbet Ballarat Cup!
