2016 Spring Racing Carnival Review

We were treated to world class racing, stunning fashion looks and amazing raceday experiences at this year's Spring Racing Carnival, making it by far the best year yet!

See below for a look back at this year's Carnival, covering our favourite moments in racing, fashion and food.

Best Racing Moment

There were so many amazing racing moments this Spring Racing Carnival, it's almost impossible to narrow it down to just one! Some highlights include Jameka smashing her rivals in the Caulfield Cup, Winx cementing herself as a true champion claiming back to back Cox Plates and James Cummings becoming the fourth member of his family to win the Victorian Derby, following in the footsteps of his grandfather the late great JB Cummings.

As amazing as these moments were, there was one that topped them all. The nation watched with bated breath as Almandin and Heartbreak City went toe to toe right from the 300m mark on Melbourne Cup Day. It was Australia vs The World with Kerrin McEvoy's classic hands and heels ride prevailing over Joao Moreira. Not only was it Almandin's owner Lloyd Williams record 5th Melbourne Cup, but it was his first time trackside in almost 20 years! Jockey McEvoy secured his second Cup 16 years apart, another record in itself. All of this in front of almost 3 million viewers nationwide!

Best Fashion Moment

When it comes to fashion, this year's Spring Carnival had too many flawless fashion moments to count! Our highlights were definitely Jesinta Franklin in Rachel Gilbert at Caulfield Cup, and Nicole Trunfio in a show stopping head to toe black look at Derby Day.

Hands down the top fashion moment goes to Jen Hawkins. She stopped the nation on Melbourne Cup Day in a red jumpsuit with oversized red millinery. It was definitely one look we won't be forgetting anytime soon!

Best Food Moment

We're all for fabulous fashion and awesome racing, but as our Content Contributor Sarah Todd says in her Restaurants Around Racecourses blog, you've gotta eat! The best food moment at this Spring Carnival had to be the fantastic (and mouth watering) food trucks on offer at Flemington's The Park. With Melbourne favourites like Saigon Sally, Huxtaburger and Biggie Smalls deliciousness on offer, the Park was our dining highlight!
