Sydney Britpop Rockers DMA's headline the Melbourne Cup Carnival in 2017

Spring Racing Carnival drops Mega Music Lineup

If you were looking for another reason to attend the Spring Racing Carnival in 2017, a mouth-watering line up of some of Australia’s best music acts was rounded out today when Victoria Racing Club dropped their line up for the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

For music lovers, it all kicks off at the BMW Caulfield Cup Carnival from October 14 – 21 , where ARIA award-winning rockers, the Temper Trap take to the main stage on Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Day, the first day of the Carnival.

With a back-catalogue that includes chart-toppers ‘Sweet Disposition’, ‘Fader’ and ‘Love Lost’ the Melbourne quartet who released their third studio record Thick as Thieves last year will be performing in front of more than 20,000 on Guineas Day.

If electronic beats are more your jam, globe-trotting DJ Grant Smillie will be spinning the decks on BMW Caulfield Cup Day on October 21. Known for his iconic remixes and time with TV Rock, the ‘Flaunt It' DJ has played in front of thousands of party-goers in the festival scene across the world.

As one carnival ends, another begins as we shift our attention to the Melbourne Cup Carnival from November 4 -11.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is expanding its past repertoire with some more hip hop, indie and rock leaning acts to grace The Park in 2017.

It starts off with a bang on AAMI Victoria Derby Day on November 4, as the Melbourne Cup Carnival brings a dreamy spring line-up led by Britpop-influenced rockers DMA’s.

The Sydney three-piece rose to prominence with debut single ‘Delete’, before dropping their debut album Hills End in 2016 and going on to sell out shows in four continents, and playing on the bills of the world's biggest festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, to name but a few.

It doesn’t stop there. Armed with bossy beats, high heels and a swag of tracks that’ve taken her to international status, festival favourite Tkay Maidza burst onto Australia's hip-hop scene with her infectious single 'Brontosaurus' and fan-favourite ‘M.O.B’ and has been making waves ever since.

A jump to the left and a step to the right into Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on November 7, global phenomenon Hot Dub Time Machine will have toes tapping in a time warp through the biggest hits of the past 60 years, with a modern-day dance party twist that the young and young-at-heart will love.

As we shift our attention to Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday November 9, a swoon of Indie-infused acts, headlined by party band San Cisco who have been at the forefront of the Australian music scene for the better party of a decade - will have the crowd grooving.

The fun continues with sets from The Preatures, with front-woman Isabella ‘Izzi’ Mandredi considered one of Australia’s most energetic performers – a perfect staple for Ladies Day.

Rounding out the bill is Bag Raiders, who’ll bring their energy to the stage with electronic anthems 'Sunlight' and 'Way Back Home'.

Whilst the Melbourne Cup Carnival comes to a close on Emirates Stakes Family Day, racegoers can say ‘Geronimo’ to Sheppard as well as a number of talented local supporting acts over the day.
